Sultan of Kedah is New King

Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the Sultan of Kedah, today (2011-12-13) began his reign as Malaysia’s 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King), creating history as the first ruler to re-assume the role .

Tuanku Abdul Halim, 84, replaces the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, who ended his term as the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Monday. This rotation system for the post of Yang di-Pertuan Agong among the nine Malay hereditary rulers began since Malaysia's independence on Aug 31, 1957
