2008 Malaysia Election Results

At the 2008 election in Malaysia on 8 March 2008, candidates vied for 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats. Though the coalition government (ruling government) won the federal government again (by a simple majority), opposition parties took over the state government in five states! A first for oposition parties in Malaysia.

"PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission has set February 24 for parties to nominate candidates for 12th general election; Malaysia goes to the polls on March 8.
Parliament was dissolved yesterday, ending weeks of speculation.
Malaysians will be asked to give a fresh mandate to the government of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Candidates will vie for 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats.
